"Knitters are a personable lot, meeting and making new friends. As long as our knitting is in hand, we're good to go." ~Vicki Square
I like knitting in public. You all know this already. You've seen it time and again. Whether in class. Hanging out in my room or anywhere else. (One friend here will always remind me of, " that time when we were at the bar and wanted someone to dance on the table and suggested you. But then you held up your hands and said, "I can't. I'm knitting.")
So I'm knitting in the library while reading magazines. A girl, late elementary school, comes over. "Are you knitting?" She didn't know how, so I showed her the basic stitch, even had her try it out a few times. Super impressive because I'm working on socks. Skinny yarn. Tiny needles. Poking out everywhere. Her mom came over to tell her she needed to go. I bragged to mom about her knitting skills.
A few minutes later she was back upstairs. "You're still here? But you're not knitting."
I assured her I was writing about knitting. Let her read the beginnings of this post. She showed me the books she's checking out. I suggested an author for her and pulled out a scrap of paper to write the name for her. On an impulse, I gave her my contact information as well.
Networking with kids. That's why I knit.
